Rodney, past relationships?

I looked through the tags, but I didn't see anything quite like this request anytime recently--if I just missed it because I'm blind, I'm so sorry!

Anyway, I really want a story where John is affected by the mention of a romantic relationship in Rodney's past. Bonus points if it was a bad relationship and John gets protective.

An itty bitty example would be chandri's In This Era of Liberty, in which John says something to the effect of "If I could go back in time and beat up everybody who ever made you think you were some kind of consolation prize, I would." (paraphrased)

In Puddle_of_goo's A Life Less Ordinary series, John has to overcome behaviors "trained" into Rodney by a lover in Siberia. It is a long series, and the revelations about the lover are in the "year one" stories, but are revisited in the other stories, as well.

It's a long series, well worth it.
