Kidnapped team member, psycho!team
Sep. 6th, 2008 02:09 pmAnyone know of a good old action adventure story or two where one of the team, preferably Rodney, is kidnapped and the others go "psycho killer nothing will stand in my way" to get him back, please? Preference for stories where the kidnappee is tied up or tortured or something other than sitting in a cell being bored - where their experience is as much part of the story as the MadDogTeam rescue.
McShep preferred, but bonus points for a good Ronon characterisation, where he isn't just background action.
Thanks

I responded with, "Yeah, but can you name a good one or three off the top of your head?" and, no. No, we couldn't. But hopefully other people will have more/better organized bookmarks for you.

Date: 2008-09-06 03:04 pm (UTC)It's humor I think, or humor mixed with action. Rodney is kidnapped (but not mistreated) and John, Teyla, and Ronon arrive to break him out, loaded down with C4 and obviously itching to blow things up. John is pretty shook up by Rodney's close call and keeps checking him for injuries, and Ronon and Teyla are being fierce and awesome. Rodney thinks of them as the Destruction Twins (or something like that but cleverer) because of all the explosives they're packing.

Not team, but Rodney's been kidnapped and John goes to get him back, it's dark and brilliant, and I'll keep looking for the link.

Date: 2008-09-06 07:48 pm (UTC)Situation Normal All Fucked Up (http://sardonicsmiley.livejournal.com/32000.html), in which John is kidnapped and Rodney crosses a line or two getting him back.
Five People John Sheppard Didn’t Kill on P11-23R (http://sardonicsmiley.livejournal.com/33676.html), in which five people live to tell the tale of how John got Rodney out of very, very bad captivity (warning: graphic torture & violence).

And there was also this previous search (http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/190704.html), a part of which fits your request, I think. Oh, and another one that definitely fits is here (http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/90759.html).

Date: 2008-09-07 07:21 pm (UTC)But specifically? Uhm, I second Exigencies, and anything by sardonicsmiley (who is totally one of my favorites in the fandom). I think eccentricweft is probably talking about The Seat of Talents (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_genficathon/21610.html) by friendshipper; pretty solid pre-slash and of course good characterization of all: "But with Rodney... you either hated the guy, or you knew him... And now Rodney had been hurt and John couldn't tell where or how badly. Had looked for it—a scar, a wound, an amputation; and when he didn't see anything, all he could think was internal injury. That his friend was going to bleed out, invisibly, with no way to stop it."
Then there's Taken (http://community.livejournal.com/mcsmooch/21713.html), in which Rodney is captured and it's John to the rescue; however, there isn't so very much involvement from the rest of the team.
And I'm going to stop here because for goodness's sakes, I answered an almost identical question from phantomstale not three days ago here (http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/267241.html). Go read it instead. My answer is all the way down at the bottom - scroll until you see it.
