[personal profile] tigriswolf posting in [community profile] sgarecfinders

I'd like a first time story(preferably, more than one) where neither Sheppard nor McKay has ever had a relationship with another man.  As in, didn't even remotely think he was gay before meeting the other.  So, neither is more experienced or has any idea what is going on, just knows that he needs/wants the other.

Anyone?

hhhm, [livejournal.com profile] incidental_fire has a recs post for something like that (http://incidental-fire.livejournal.com/17018.html), and there was another search (http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/200159.html) similar to that, and of course, there's A Beautiful Lifetime Event (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/stargate/lifetime_event.html) by [livejournal.com profile] astolat, where I believe they were both previously straight. It's been a while since I read it though!

One of my very favorite stories of that genre is That Pon Farr Thing (http://chelle.slashcity.org/atlantis/ponfarr.shtml) by [livejournal.com profile] chellefic.

This is one of my faves! It's a bit broader than what you asked for as it as Virgin!John, but John's never had a relationship with a man, and he's had them with women. Check it though, very much worth it.

Wow, there certainly are a lot of these. I have two tags on my del.icio.us account: one for straight!John (http://delicious.com/Kirinin/straight%21John) and one for straight!Rodney (http://delicious.com/Kirinin/straight%21Rodney). Fics that are tagged with both are when both boys have never had a relationship with another man before.

I'd particularly recommend Oblivious (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/stargate/Oblivious.html) when it comes to John: in which Rodney believes they are in a relationship, and John never gets around to telling them they're not. Hilarious in a deliciously subtle sort of way, the kind of funny that builds. ;)

Also, Tango (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/stargate/Tango.html): Sex or death? It's pretty much a no-brainer. John figures out that sex leads to smart ideas from McKay, and when they enter into dangerous situations, he uses that knowledge. Then it becomes less and less about the certain doom...

Still, I have about 15 or 20 of those that I thought were good enough to tag; and I really am picky about what I bookmark.

As for the straight!Rodney fics, well, they are fewer; but I'd rec Si Muovo (http://www.trickster.org/kass/SiMuovo.html), if you aren't averse to AUs. It's a brilliant fic in which Rodney is an astrophysicist priest and John was disgraced not for disobeying orders but for openly having a male lover. Both end up in Alaska, where they meet; the SGC still exists, and attempts to recruit them. I'm not exactly doing it justice with my description, but it's really quite excellent.

Another great straight!Rodney fic is semivowel's Transference (http://semivowel.livejournal.com/1888.html), which might be my favorite SGA fanfic of all time. Sheppard begins to touch the people he trusts more and the people he doesn't trust less, to the point of causing insult to Random Offworld Leader No.226. Rodney, in his archetypically empirical way, tries to solve the mystery of John's behavior.

I do wonder why there aren't as many straight!Rodney fics, though - only four more on my tags. Maybe people see him, for all his awkwardness, as less willing to pass on a good thing just because of foolish social mores.

Have fun,

-K

Hi, please edit your post so it's not font type and size specific, as it's breaking our comm rule about post formatting as it is. I really don't want to delete it because of all the responses you've been getting, but rules are rules, and there are there for a reason.

The link to editing your post is this one (http://www.livejournal.com/editjournal.bml?journal=sgagenrefinders&itemid=249286), click it and should be able to edit - I can only delete the post at that screen, not toggle its contents (since you are its poster and I'm just the comm mod). If you have any other questions about editing your post, perhaps giving details about what the problem is would help me understand better so I can help you in turn to get your post to be rule-compliant?

Yep, it looks fine now. Thanks!

(Also, pointers for next time: to insure there's no extra editing, use the HTML mode and not the Rich Text mode for writing a post. Preview to make sure it looks good; basically HTML mode is what the comment boxes are defaulting at, just so you have a reference. And if you can't get something to work, copy the text, paste it into your NotePad or the non-windows equivalent of the same, the copy&paste that into the post. The first step will get rid of all the extra formatting, leaving only the text, but usually it's unnecessary as the HTML mode doesn't recognize pre-formatting on entered text, anyway.)
