Pissed-Off McKay
Jul. 22nd, 2008 05:27 pmI'm a big fan of Post-Trinity/Duranda fic and love the recs at The Post-Trinity Phenomenon by iifnf. But after readingNot Quite An Explosion by Lavvyan w/friend, we started chatting about 4th season in comparison.
Lin said "Hell, if McKay was pissed-off after Trinity, why wasn't he livid after most of 4th season? Sheppard & Ronon made mean remarks about him, Teyla, Keller, and Carter were frankly dismissive. Why did he take it?"
You know, I think that's a set of great questions I would love to see fandom answer. Surely, someone has written a story dealing with the abrupt change in attitude on Atlantis towards McKay. Especially, I would love to find a story or two that explains why Ronon was so mean to McKay? Why was Sheppard? I'm must admit I'm a McShep addict but any good fic that answers these questions, I would love to read.
Thanks so much.
Per Moderator's request, a discussion of this topic can be done at Season 4 Rodney. I'm so sorry. But still looking for Angry McKay, Season 4 recs. Thank you.

Date: 2008-07-23 04:06 am (UTC)I remember a scene where Sheppard & Ronon are making biting remarks while in the 'jumper - may have been Lifeline but may also be Be All My Sins Remember'd. Harmony also has some really sharp comments. On the other hand, Trio had some classic McKay moments. And I loved him in The Last Man. But Rodney, as a character, changed quite a bit this season. Didn't Sheppard & McKay have a conversation about 'McKay being off is game, the last year' during .. The Kindred, I think? Or did I just read it in a fic or worse, imagine it altogether?
But have you noticed that the excecutive producers & writers each have their favorite characters just like us fans (g)? For example, Carl Binder really seems to like Sheppard & Ronon; he uses them as an odd couple partnership that is fun to watch ... but he doesn't seem to favor Rodney McKay as his eps rarely have much of him ... or maybe, it's just that he rarely uses him positively.
I guess the heart of the debate we had was that McKay was used as a comic relief a great deal this past season, especially by his own team. Lin and I could be wrong. But did anyone else see it? Has any fiction been been written on the subject?
Thank you.

I don't think you are going to find anything exactly like you asked for but the ones above might be a partial fix. I can try to find more from other authors along these lines if they will fit what you are looking for.
