I'm looking for fics that take place in a BDSM AU - not just where BDSM happens, but where the society revolves around tops and subs.

A good example of this is Xanthe's stories, which I've read. I've also read a story where John is a sub but is still in command of Atlantis, and one where John picks up Rodney at the side of the road and takes him home (sorry I can't remember more details about those stories or the links).

Basically, I was wondering if there are any other stories like this out there - they can be het or slash, preferably McShep but they don't have to be. If there was a story where they visited an alien culture that had a BDSM society, that would be great too!

As for other SGA stories, there is a WIP by telesilla: A Learning Experience that has a sort of BDSM universe premise (Rodney is a sex slave belonging to John's mother), also Kat Reitz and Perryvic have written SGA AUs (they tend to end up as Beckett/McKay/Sheppard, but often Kolya is featured in non-con aspects iirc the pairing configurations) that may work for this kink, depending on which BDSM aspect one wants. There one type (there are AUs in several fandoms but arranged around the same kink AU premise) where the gist is that patrons sort of pick out children as companions who are then raised to their specifications and belong to them once they are of age:

and another where some sort of Empire with institutionalized slavery exists, but slaves may get to buy themselves free and there is all kinds of complicated worldbuilding:

There is also a similar "vibe" in SGA fusions with the Black Jewel book series that I read, but it is not exactly BDSM either. I remember To Serve A Queen by Tielan, which is het though, and I think I've read one other, but can't find it in my bookmarks.

Also the acronym actually kind of doubles the explanation for the letter combinations, as b/d also stands for bondage/discipline, d/s for dominance/submission and s/m for sadism/masochism on their own.

Hmmm...I think I read one where Rodney was allowed to take John through the 'gate to Atlantis as his personal property or something but I couldn't find it in my tags.

I think the first one you mean is Finding Home by Raicara but that's more slavefic than a BDSM universe, as John has been convicted and enslaved and is brought to Atlantis as Rodney's property, he doesn't submit voluntarily and is not an officer:

And well, the two are similar kinks, but the main difference are consent issues, and many people have a non-con squick, and all slavefic that is not of the "pretend" variety is at least dub-con after all, and Finding Home in particular will seriously squick anyone who doesn't have a rape kink, I expect. So I find it worth pointing out. I mean personally I like slavefic, because BDSM fic with consensual play often of feels like a fantasy once removed to me, and I rather have the fantasy scenario being the story directly, but many readers feel differently.
