Lately I've been finding that I really enjoy stories where language, either written or spoken, plays a strong role in the story's plot.  For example, there's 'Pegasus Literature 101', where Miko configures the 'Gate to translate the written word, or 'Words, Words, Words', in which John sketches and writes on his skin in ballpoint, or 'Nonverbal', where the original explorers of Atlantis have their own, completely unspoken language.  If this is to your taste, or if you'd like to see what I've garnered so far, here is the link to stuff on my delicious account, tagged 'language'.  I would really like to read more, though, especially after I recently found 'Peg Lit'.

Second, for some reason I adore Rodney-as-a-musician-or-professor stories.  All I have for musical!Rodney is: 'Pianoforte' by Mirabile Dictu; 'Unidentified', by Fiercelydreamed; and 'String Theory, a Concerto for Violin in D-minor' by Toftoft.  All I have for professor!Rodney is 'Freedom's Just Another Word'.

Finally: quantum mirror stories.  I can't get enough of them.

Gracias to all, and to all a good night!

For your first request, have you already read "Athosian for Beginners" by trinityofone? http://trinityofone.livejournal.com/122785.html

It deals with the breakdown of the "translation" function of the gate, and all of a sudden Teyla, Ronon and the other Pegasus natives are cut off by language barriers; everyone has to relearn how to communicate. I absolutely love Rodney and Teyla in this story, hope it is what you are looking for! :D

Oh wait, I see it is on your 'Peg Lit' list already. Sorry!

Alternative Medicine (http://www.area52hkh.net/asm/madison/alternat.php) by Madison is one of my favorites. It's McShep, don't know if that matters to you or not.

Martha Wilson has some awesome quantum mirror stories. Here: Refraction (http://www.ltljverse.com/watergate/stories/refraction.htm),Deflection (http://www.ltljverse.com/watergate/stories/deflection.htm), and a story that's part of her Retrograde universe, Least Resistance (http://www.ltljverse.com/watergate/stories/resistance.htm).

I also really like Cross Product (http://quasar273.livejournal.com/1871.html) by [livejournal.com profile] quasar273. There's a whole series (http://quasar273.livejournal.com/tag/crisscross) of those stories, but the first one (Cross Product) is the only quantum mirror story.

As for musical Rodney, there's a Christmas story called Wassail (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=10164) by Dasha that features Rodney playing carols on a portable keyboard at a Christmas party (and it's really a much better story than I'm making it sound). One of Tiranog's (http://tiranog.southroad.com/Tiranog_Site_Map_Web.htm) stories also features a piano-playing Rodney, but I can't remember which one it is. Resilience (http://tiranog.southroad.com/SGA/Resilience.htm), I think.

Do you have the link for "Pianoforte"? I love musical-Rodney stories, and I haven't read that one.

I know there's another musical-Rodney story that I've read -- Rodney is a composer and John is his assistant -- but I can't remember what it was called or who wrote it. I might go check over at [livejournal.com profile] sgastoryfinders and get back to you.

And I found it! They're fast over there at [livejournal.com profile] sgastoryfinders! It's Counterpoint (http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/nestra/stories/counterpoint.html) by Nestra. There are two sequels, Cadence (http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/nestra/stories/cadence.html) and Continuo (http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/nestra/stories/continuo.html).
