Here's a list for SGA Disability (http://www.geocities.com/disability_fanfic/stargateatlantis.html) fic. It'll tell you what the disability is and who it affects.

It's not deaf!John, but my favorite story where one of the boys is seriously injured/disabled (paralyzed, in this case) is Fading Skies (http://www.panopeeper.com/raven/StargateAtlantis/FadingSkies/FadingSkiesTable.htm) by Diamond-Raven. Gorgeous story.

EDIT: Did you mean to screen comments to this post? Because they are.

(BTW, why did you hardcode your font to be huge and red?? It makes it look as if you think people wouldn't notice your post without you virtually shouting at them.)

As a mod, I agree with what's been said above - there's no need for special fonts or colors to make you post more noticable; all posts get equal attention, and the comm looks much better if all posts have a unified formatting. I would appreciate it if you could edit your post accordingly.

Also, I've unscreened the comments, because at this rate you'll get a lot of folks sending you to the same disability fanfic site, which was linked in the "Local Collection of Links" I've composed for this comm; there's a link to it one the rightside bar on the comm's main page.

Yes, it hides comments until the poster (or comm owner) approves them, meaning others *cannot* see previous replies for some time leading to a ton of duplicate responses, especially in fairly high traffic communities like this one when a question is asked and nobody can see that there are already two dozen identical replies that wait in your inbox to be unscreened because you went afk for ten minutes after posting or whatever. The default on LJ (nd general expectation in comms) is for comments to appear unmoderated, unless you expect to be hassled by spam or trolls.

If you have any lj-related question, this is not the place to voice them. You can find any and all info at lj's FAQ (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faq.bml) section.

Caps mean that too on LJ as well, but it is hard to miss "red and really big" as in your face typographic message. And well, experimenting without knowledge of the basics is rarely a good idea, I'm just saying...

I'm sorry, did you miss the part in my previous comment where I asked you edit your post so it conformes with the others posts in this comm? As I'm not the only one who thinks it's anything but fun and something of an eye-sore, I have to bring up my moderators privilages and warn you that should you not comply with due haste, your post will be deleted.

I know the comm has no rules about things like this, but there is such a thing as nettiquette, and following it makes everyone's net experience easier. FWI

To start with, *people like you*, as you're so fond of calling yourself, are generally referred to as *newbies*, and as such are expected to learn their way around lj, and until they are familiar with their surroundings, to try and learn by doing, and accept when they're warned about doing something wrong.

Let's recap: you posted in loud color and big font in *this community* in which not one of the previous posts were formatted this. (I liken this to wearing your underwear over your formal dress to a public event, in that it does anything but blend in.) You were asked by another comm member, and me, the comm mod, to kindly change the formatting of your post. It was not until you claimed ignorance and blatantly ignored the points I brought up in my first comment that I issued you a warning in my second comment. Which you only half obeyed, as the font size and type are still sticking out from all the other posts.

To answer your claims about my "rough treatment" of you and such: if you think I should have begged you in my second comment to pretty please with sugar on top edit your post so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, well. You obviously missed who's the moderator and who a newbie poster here. I don't run this comm to go around begging people to do the right thing. I suspect any form of authority worth its money doesn't, either. And, to be clear: I did not yell at you, insult you, or belittle you in any way. I pointed out the faults with you post, and asked you - twice - to correct them. You have ignored my words, played dumb, and went on to nicely insult me in the process. Thank you, my day has just gotten that much better.

The reason there are no rules about text formatting in this community, or really, barely any community on livejournal at all, is because people generally accept the idea that a community or journal that looks harmonious, is harmonious.

The reason I will be revoking your posting privilages until such a time you get some more lj experience under your belt and look up what netiquette is all about, is because I don't want a repeat of this perfomance. Claiming you're ignorant of unwritten lj rules is about as acceptable as performing embarassing bodily functions in front of a bunch of people in a public setting; it might make you feel good for all of a few minutes, but will make everyone else reconsider hanging around.

There are communities aimed at helping newbies learn more about everything lj related. Next time you go off at a moderator for trying to do their job, I suggest you do so in full knowledge of all your faults and mistakes, and not try to blame it on the injured party.

I'm sorry for this flame war, too. But the fact remains that you started it, and flaming is not something I'm willing to tolerate in my comm. Sorry, but you're not welcome in this comm anymore.

There are plenty of other communities out there, I'm sure you'll find one that suits you better thus giving both of us the peace we deserve.

Just to clarify, I did not get upset until your second comment and I was just expressing how you made me feel after your comment that I was playing dumb. Your next reply was very stand offish to me. I have no problem with other communities but I will not be treated like a criminal for pointing out when someone is being harsh with me for something I did not even know was wrong.

We have varying opinions on whom was harsh first and that is fine, but at least I can admit it when I am incorrect meaning I did not read all of your first comment. If you had addressed me instead of commenting under someone else's comment I would have known you were speaking to me and that you were unhappy.

I just wish you had re-read your comments like I did before replying to me as you did. I re-read mine and I can say I was angry for what you said but still showed you respect in letting you know when I was incorrect. All I said to you was I found you comment rude when I tried to point out that i was new to this site. That is the job of a mod to help people not push them to their breaking point.

You made my experience on this site very upsetting. I suggest you look over your comments and in the future learn how to help people who don't understand rather then being angry with them for not knowing or not understanding what you asked. I agree that no further interaction between the two of us is best and will show you the respect I feel I was not given to me. I like the site and like the people, but feel this was blown way to far out of proportion. Thanks for at least apologizing, however,I don't feel you truly understand how you made me feel and kicking me from the site is just your way to get rid of someone you don't want to help. I changed my comment when you asked and you still didn't take that into consideration instead you attacked me and said I was going against your wishes. That is fine, not posting on your community is fine, just please show respect to the next set of people you comment too instead of going on the offensive and that way this will not happen with anyone else.

Seriously? Take a freakin' pill and calm down. Clearly you are one of those people who has no authority in real life and therefore must abuse others in the virtual world. How exactly did she "start a flame war"? She is new. Help her out. Were you not new at one point, or did you just pop online and know everything about everything?

Date: 2008-04-16 01:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] debris_k.livejournal.com
First: why are you attacking me? If I was being abusing previously, what does that say about you?

Second: I don't know what your world experiences are, but breaking rules first, asking questions later, and still not showing the sense to make restitutions but rather whining about the unfairness of not being treated with kid gloves or being given an unasked for lj manual in the innitial modly warnings - well, that behaviour wouldn't go over well anywhere, and I didn't find it much endearing in my comm, either.

If you don't like how I run thing you are certainly welcome to leave; I don't go around your lj offending you about stuff I have no connection with and have no full insight into. Kindly ask the offended party to show you the comment they had later deleted, and then tell me I had judged them harshly and prematurely.

I suggest you ignore further comments on this matter. This entire thread is clearly off-topic and the only reason I haven't deleted it so far is that it seemed dead - don't make me poke you with my pointy stick. That you gave me. *coughs*

*sighs*

Look. As honorable as it is to defend a newbie, you are a bit late to see what this post originally looked like and how intentionally messed up it was (though I suppose you can extrapolate a bit from the bewilderment of the other users or alternatively take a look here (http://mysterymadchen.livejournal.com/896.html), as the OP has so helpfully replicated their post). I sincerely doubt that changing the font, the text size, as well as the text colour, is something that comes easy to a new user, so there must be at least some knowledge of basic formatting. Screening the comments also doesn't exactly point to a complete newbie.

Apart from that, I don't think some common sense is really too much to ask for. Messing with a community's basic layout just because purple looks prettier or whatever, is not the way to go. That shouldn't have to be explicitly stated, not even to new users. It's like visiting someone for the first time and painting their living room green because you didn't like their wallpaper.

Calling this a flame war is certainly a bit exaggerated, but belatedly butting in like this and getting personal doesn't help anyone and just gets everyone in a snit. Again. So I'm asking you to please stick to our new set of rules, which were created to prevent exactly this kind of situation and keep me from having to wield my modly stick of doom, and don't leave this kind of comment again.

Thanks for understanding.

Probably listed in one of the above recced disability sites, but a good one where Shep's temporarily deaf is Kodiak Bear Country's Disorientation (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3032199/1/Disorientation?)
