Russians in Atlantis.
Nov. 10th, 2014 10:47 pmI'm currently watching SG1's "Watergate" episode and suddenly, intense Russians in the Stargate program feels!
So, does anyone have any good recs for fics about the Russian members of the Atlantis Expedition? Canon characters (from SG1, too) are great, OCs would even be greater, spotlight should really be on the Russians and please no McShep. Does anyone have any good recs?

Date: 2014-12-18 01:07 pm (UTC)Alas, I have only crumbs for you, which is odd considering all the AUs, and fic focussing on the most minor of characters, and blooming crack fic out there - where are the Russians???
On AO3, there are these tags to try:
Svetlana Markov

Sam Carter/Svetlana Markov

Svetlana Markov/Rodney McKay

Colonel Chekov (SG-1)

Don't get too excited, though, the above represents only a few fics in total, mostly short. I haven't read (or don't remember) them all, but this one was really good:
"The Guy Who Came Into The Cold" by dvs
http://archiveofourown.org/works/59839
Although it is more of a Rodney story, I'm afraid; set in Siberia after "48 Hours." (But it's really good.)
This post is getting a bit long, so I'm going to break it up...
Russians? What Russians?
Date: 2014-12-18 01:58 pm (UTC)This one was pretty good:
"Life, Luck, and Other Mysteries" by Audrey Lynne
http://wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?skin=mckay&sid=15220&chapter=1&textsize=1
"Word count: 3806; Completed: Yes
Summary: Colonel Chekov, though he did most of his work with the SGC, became involved with a member of the Atlantis expedition before there was an Atlantis expedition. As a young soldier, Andrei Chekov unwittingly and unwillingly found himself teaming up with a spirited Czech national. After all, if someone is trying to kill the both of you, it is more efficient to work together. Radek backstory."
This next one is McKay-centric, but some of it is set in Siberia post-"48 Hours" and deals with McKay's interactions with Dr. Markova and the other Russian staff (starting in chapter 2):
"McKay's Encounters" by Soledad
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2881668/1/McKay-s-Encounters
By 'encounters' the author means (het and gay) 'sex' IIRC.
This next one is an AU, again mostly from McKay and Sheppard's perspective, and ends up being McShep, but in it McKay (& Zelenka) are working with the Russians, including Dr. Markova, in Siberia:
"The Spaces Between" by Taste_is_Sweet
http://archiveofourown.org/works/1114836
It's a lengthy {30, 000+), gripping read, with angst and anguish and Ancient technology; I recommend it. The next one I haven't read; it's a 7000+ word crossover with the Russian supernatural fantasy movie "Night Watch", main characters are McKay and Anton Gorodetsky:
"The Light Inside" by Mad_Maudlin
http://archiveofourown.org/works/54852
I think there was a fic where the SGC and much of North America had been destroyed - by the Ori? The Wraith?? - and the remnants had relocated to the Russian base in Siberia; it was mostly from McKay and Sheppard's POV, but, um, there were Russians in it...I can't find it in my bookmarks, though.
And that's pretty much all I've got, I'm sad to say. CRUMBS, is all. Hope there's something here for you.
(Someone please write an awesome AU where the Russians run the Stargate programme. Or Dr. Markova, Colonel Vaselov, and the Russian team from "The Tomb" are part of the Atlantis expedition. And the Russians save the day. Or something, please!)
