Animals

I've had a look through past requests marked 'animals/pets' and can't see the following request so thought I'd give it a try.

I'm looking for stories where John/Rodney acquire a pet.  It could be Rodney's favourite, a cat, or an octopus (forgot which fic, but it doesn't matter), or a 'not a Tibbles'  (ie Pegasus sort of cat) as in Mrs Hamil's 'The Trouble With Tribbles. (http://www.hawksong.com/~thammill/SGA_Fic/tribbles.htm). ; I'd like the mood to be happy, so no animal death fics please.  I want to laugh or go 'awwww', not cry!

I prefer the backgound to be McShep, but am pretty much happy with pairing or none.

Thank you.

Try "Wraith Killer" by Lady Ra. Long and lovely and plotty. And, of course, Rodney & John being cute with a kitten!

Once Upon a Furry Octopus (http://skoosiepants.livejournal.com/109266.html)

The Checkmate verse (http://archiveofourown.org/works/221898) (John is, temporarily, Rodney's cat companion)

In these, the pets are minor characters. Not sure how well that works.

Things to Do In Denver When You're Dead (http://www.trickster.org/speranza/cesper/Denver.html) (bonus: it's the cat Rodney left with his neighbor)

It's a Small World After All (http://archiveofourown.org/works/256960)

The Entangled Particles series (Rodney gets a cat (http://archiveofourown.org/works/88156), John gets a dog (http://archiveofourown.org/works/886973))

The Nantucket (http://archiveofourown.org/series/1067) series (dog and cat)

Plan C, or How Rodney McKay Lost His Wife and Gained a Galaxy (http://archiveofourown.org/works/119605) (Rodney and Sam divorce, Rodney wants the cat and the hot yard guy)

Rodney McKay Can Heal Puppies With His Brain - Is that a nod to the David Hewlett movie Scanners II? Wow!

Is it? I'll have to look out for that. I found the story back when I was doing my SGA discovery binge, and you couldn't forget that title.

There is also a sequel, but I can't find it.

Scanners II on Youtube! David doesn't show up until about 13 minutes in. Puppy healing happens about 15 minutes in.

edit to add: Damn, too good to be true! It's not in English. Sorry, I was just fast forwarding thru it looking for the scenes and didn't actually play it.

Hey, in "Rodney McKay Can Heal Puppies With His Brain," I just noticed that one of the names John suggested for the puppy is "Murray." While SG1 folks might associate that name with Teal'c, I think that was another sly nod to David Hewlett. He starred in a movie called "Treed Murray," although the US name was changed to "Get Down."

OK, I looked it up over on IMDB, and pretty much any movie where the sneering villain calls David Hewlett "pretty boy" is something I have to see.

Luckily, it's on iTunes :)
