AUs with Stargate

sgarecfindersSo, generally speaking, lists of AUs are primarily (or exclusively) populated with earthbound AUs, where either there is no SGC or the characters are not in a position to be aware of it. And those AUs are awesome! But not what I'm in the mood for.
I'm in search of AUs (preseries or early series, I guess) wherein something is more subtly different. Maybe Rodney works at the SGC but John doesn't at first, or vice-versa. synecdochic's City on the Edge of Forever, where Elizabeth prepares the expedition as a colony. I'm not picky! Just something showing a different way the characters came to Atlantis, or came to know about Atlantis, or how the differences changed their early adventures.
I'm open to any point of view, main character, pairing, whathaveyou... just AUs where there is still Atlantis, or the potential to go there, if the fic doesn't progress that far.

John's an ex-pilot with a messed-up leg, and Rodney manages to contact him from Atlantis to beg for help from the SGC, or, as summarized "The first time John Sheppard saw Rodney McKay he thought he was hallucinating." Great crossover with SG1.

Date: 2012-12-02 10:02 am (UTC)Bell Curve, or, Ladies' Night at the Boom Boom Room - John is a post-grad student, Mckay is a junior professor. Follows them for about 15 years and ends up with SGC. Bonus features: stripper!John in the first story and a very brief appearance by Benton Fraser.
Adventures in an Astrophysicist's Life - Evil co-workers, a strip joint, a kidnapping, a surprise Goa'uld … life just keeps happening to Rodney. (also features stripper!John and no, this is not a theme)
Divergent Paths: Glimpses of the Future - McKay is a very rich man who needs a pilot; Sheppard is a pilot in need of a job. This perfect match is somewhat hampered by all the attempts to kill Mckay. Bonus feature: Steve and Danny from Hawaii Five-0 as the security experts John hires to help keep McKay alive.
Criss-Cross Series - After touching an Ancient artefact on another planet, John suddenly finds himself surfing in California. He manages to get himself and McKay sent to Atlantis and then swapped back to his own universe, and the rest of the series concerns surfing-Sheppard's attempts to make a place for himself in Atlantis. Bonus feature: Jim and Blair from The Sentinel.
The Devil You Know - definitely not for the faint-hearted, this is a very dark Alternate Atlantis, but it's very well-written and worth a look.
General and Dr Sheppard - This is the earliest of the BDSM-verse stories by Xanthe and is probably the best introduction, although she later wrote two stories that precede it. Obviously it may not be for all tastes, but it's not dark, in fact I'd call it sweetly romantic for the most part. Some stories cross over with NCIS and she now has an OC novel as well. A guide to the BDSM-verse is here.
Like Strawberries in Summer - McKay is a sentinel without a guide, who isn't allowed on the Atlantis expedition without one. Sheppard is the guy who accidentally bonds to him and then disappears. (The Sentinel fusion, obviously)
Liminal Absolutely amazing WW2 AU, with a ghost-story feel to it. And yes, they still end up on Atlantis.
Redemption - Sheppard is an unregistered sentinel who accidentally saves McKay from an attack and ends up sequestered in SGC. (Another Sentinel fusion)
The Roads Never Lead Where They're Supposed to Go - Zelenka is CSO of Atlantis, McKay is a physicist confined to his labs, and John is on the scientific mission as a botanist.
The Sheppard Equation - Rodney's new boyfriend is definitely not called James Carter. He's probably not even Sam's cousin. So why is he so interested in the equations Sam gave Rodney to solve?
Tongues of Men and Angels - When SG-4 is ambushed offworld, an injured Major John Sheppard must put his trust in a Tok'ra agent named McKay to survive.
Trust Issues - John and McKay are Trust agents (yes, really).

Date: 2012-12-05 01:17 am (UTC)It has most of the main characters of Atlantis, several of SG1, the difference being is whose hands the Stargate has ended up in and the potential is definitely there at the end for them to get to Atlantis. That doesn't do justice though to what is an awesome John and Rodney friendship this is though, with mystery and action thrown in!
