Hi! I'm looking for stories (preferably McShep, though I'm flexible) where they find/encounter/run into another ancient city (not Atlantis!)

"Return to Normalcy" ends up with another Ancient city, it's a story based on the idea that they don't go back to Atlantis after the Ancients throw them out.

"Whipping Boy" by Skinscript. You don't get to the Ancient city until close to the end, which is integral to the story. Whumping of many, including Rodney, deathfic of OCs, non-graphic torture of all. A hard read, but worth it.

Two of the Stargate novels (that I know of) have plots like that. Of the two, I recommend Reliquary by Martha Wells (gen, but heavy on the John/Rodney friendship) and urge you to never subject yourself to Brimstone, which is an OOC and badly researched mess by David Niall Wilson.

Thanks for the rescue, I'd been interested in getting Brimstone!

I read it earlier this year and it made quite (http://gaffsie.livejournal.com/237551.html) an impression on me (http://gaffsie.livejournal.com/238058.html).

I've read several of the SGA novels, and Brimstone is by far the worst.

A great example of another Ancient City is Sardonic Smiley's

Pilgrim's Progress (http://smiley.zonezine.net/html/44403.html)

Not McShep although there is plenty of Rodney and John but there is more Rodney and Teyla friendship. It's 43k but is worth reading as a thoughtful character driven, angst filled, friendship drama! Rated PG-13 by author but I'd personally say R for swearing and wide-spread death/impending human disaster.

Written just to include the line, "You're not God, Sheppard's not your messiah, and I'm not the anti-Christ. But I am going to kill you."

It really did make an impression, didn't it!

My worst ever "proper" novel experience? DS9's Laertian Gamble (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Laertian-Gamble-Star-Trek-Space/dp/0671886908). The Amazon review at the bottom doesn't do justice to the awfulness. I must have read it in 1996 and I still clearly remember how OOC Bashir, Kira and Dax were!

The problem is a) the truly awful is hard to put down and b) anything you pay for you feel the need to get your money's worth from!

Definitely. If it had been a fanfic, I would have closed the tab somewhere around the first instance of "spinning gate", but since I paid for it and I wanted to see if it ever redeemed itself, I just had to read to the bitter end.

Oh, and I suddenly remembered who wrote another gen one and then found it!
It is also full of Rodney & Teyla ironically!

The other Ancient city is involved a lot earlier in this story!

(Sorry about the deleted comment, my first post's link crashed & burned!)

One fic that needs to be recced here is Congratulations by ca_pierson (http://archiveofourown.org/works/112012). It's not quite what you meant, being a crackfic, but it's too hilarious not to rec. :)
