Would anyone like to recommend fics - especially longer ones - that they feel are underappreciated and/or obscure?

I've read some really wonderful fics since I came into the fandom, including all the major rec lists, but I know there must be many fics out there that didn't make the rec lists, but are still really wonderful. Fics on small sites or buried in FF seem to get overlooked too.

Slash or gen please, or team-love. Canon het pairings are also fine as long as they're not the centre of the fic. But no unhappy endings or horror/explicit torture - I'm a total wuss about that stuff!!

Erm...I have a sneaking suspicion all of these are pretty well-known, but just in case - Indelible (http://web.archive.org/web/20090415150638/http://www.fictumfictorium.com/shaenie/indelible.html)? Salt of the Earth (http://www.area52hkh.net/asd/dasha/saltof01.php)? Alpha Centuri (http://classic-web.archive.org/web/20080611162307/http://hth.gatefiction.com/atlantis.htm) is that rarest of creatures, a long, good OT3. Damned if you Do (http://archiveofourown.org/works/25872)?

[livejournal.com profile] rhymer23 wrote some great fic that are, as far as I can see, too rarely recced. On her SGA fic website (http://www.rhymer.org.uk/sga/sga.html") you can find them sorted by length, with the long ones on top. Wonderful team and friendship, good character voices, great AUs (often with illustrations), always good to reread. (Some of them have torture scenes or references, mind the warnings.)

I'm going to rec two gen stories from the 2009 Big Bang that did get recced, but imo maybe not quite enough ;)
Whipping Boy (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=74) by [livejournal.com profile] skinscript set post-S5 (feels like it could have been one of the really better episodes or the movie-we-won't-get if the writers had all been at their best when they wrote that). gen, ~45,800 words

The Magical Number Seven (Plus or Minus Two) (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=99) by [livejournal.com profile] general_jinjur. S4 AU, the Lanteans don't get all their memories back, and the repli!Team is out there. gen, ~61,150 words.

Adrift (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=92) by cypher, which used the same prompt as TMNS, may have gotten more widely recced because it's (mostly) McShep slash and other pairings. ~86,800 words.

(There were several other 2009 Big Bang stories I remember enjoying quite a lot, including Thousandmother and Calling Down the Lightning, both McShep.)

Two earlier searches here you may be interested in:

http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/810671.html - recs for longer stories on fanfiction.net

And last, I rec some non-Mcshep fics, some of which are classics, some not (yet ;) that may not get recced quite as much (anymore) on newer lists and at ongoing comms because they're older or non-McShep or both -- at the "A few recs" subsection, just above the "SGA Big Bang" section of my (Newer) SGA Readers Guide (http://skaredykat.livejournal.com/1083.html) post -- all of which I think are worth reading. :)

+1 on Eldon Rhymer's stories -- I enjoyed several of them very much (and still haven't read all their SGA stories, oops).

Also [livejournal.com profile] tipper_green´s fics, to be found here (http://megtipper.tripod.com/fanfiction6.htm). Long, plotty genfic with great team and friendship scenes. I especially like their fics from season two onwards.

Three of my favorite authors: [livejournal.com profile] kristen999 writes long, plotty gen that will knock your socks off; [livejournal.com profile] neevebrody writes thinky slash, short and long; and [livejournal.com profile] melagan who writes slashy humor with a unique twist. You can find their works by tag on their LJs or on AO3.

Have you read either "Its Always Autumn in the Old Trees of Depair" by KodiakBearCountry? You should read all her SGA fics.

Or Jabberwocky by Stealth Dragon? She's incredible.

This was a challange! And I really hope at least some of these are new to you.

Peace Offerings: John/Kavanagh. I know, stop looking at me like that. But it's a good fic, which is a wonderful and rare thing with this pairing. http://kez-lair.livejournal.com/13230.html

Not a Chick Flick: John/Rodney/Radek. Unusual among even threesomes for the honesty and depth of emotion, I think. http://sirkate.livejournal.com/325992.html#cutid1

Mcshep:
The Lazarus Curse: best HP crossover ever, IMO. http://sga-flashfic.livejournal.com/484871.html

The Crooked Path: because I love the characterization and I don't see it recced enough. http://archiveofourown.org/works/1722

Rapture In Pink: not very long but I'm throwing it in here because it is one of the hottest things I've ever read and I don't think I've ever seen it recced. http://mckay-sheppard.livejournal.com/2254686.html

Coffee and Juiceboxes: underrecced long and lovely earth AU kid!fic. http://shadrach30.angelfire.com/erotica/coffee.htm

How There Was A Conspiracy to Kidnap Rodney and Possibly Even Torture Him: like it says on the can. Hilarious. http://chaletian.livejournal.com/320589.html

My Father Before Me: I'm gonna be honest and say I never really got the mass fandom appeal of Freedom Is Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose (I know, *gasp*), but this one got me sobbing. It's beautiful. http://telleer.livejournal.com/326670.html

Fading Skies: beautiful and tearjerking AU that does get recced but not nearly enough (or not anymore, at least). http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=10959

These are all Rodney-heavy, because I like him so much...

There's NotTasha. She's comparable to Tipper, some wonderful, lengthy Teamy or Rodneycentric fic which I go back to again and again: http://www.nottasha.com/atlantis.htm

Kolyaaa! is hilarious but also has stories are rich and long: http://kolyaaa.bravehost.com/ "Stuck" is a great de-aged Rodney fic.

I really enjoyed "Twelve" by Skypig21 aka IAmRightHere. Description: A tale of love, geometry and murder! Miko Kusanagi must bear the burden of and responsibility for murdering the same man, Dr. Rodney McKay, twelve times. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3140194/1/Twelve

Era Yachi's "Twenty Questions" is a moving sorta-but-not death fic: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3174125/1/Twenty_Questions

Gaffer42's "Weight of History" is a sort of medical mystery: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2571276/1/Weight_of_History

I like to read and reread Thought Reflex's "Treading Water" universe (Rodney is born with gills) and "Replaced" universe: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1030410/Thought_Reflex

Technoscribe's "Breaking Walls" is a slight AU that deals with Rodney's secret past: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2897353/1/Breaking_Walls She has also begun a sequel called "Human" that I really hope she finishes!

Hope you haven't read some of these :)

Those two are the first authors I read when I came to SGA fics and they are incredible authors.

I highly recommend "Wrong End of the Leash" by Stealth Dragon. It's an AWESOME fic.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2674070/1/Wrong_End_of_a_Leash

I also love her Castles in the Sky, Squaring the Circle...pretty much anything she writes is a wild ride.

My lesser-known favorites - all McShep and humor, except the last.

The Birds and the Bees and the Bats and the Robots (http://iibnf.livejournal.com/1228504.html) by bernice.

Five Planets Atlantis is Never Contacting Again... (http://archiveofourown.org/works/52325) by spuffyduds.

Pretty Much the Worst Winter Ever (http://sga-flashfic.livejournal.com/692350.html) by americanleaguer.

Operation Break-Up (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=14731) by Valory Hope.

They're Advertising in the Skies for People Like Us (http://obsessivetendencies.net/fiction/alpha.html) by kel.

The last is gen, but was still completely satisfying to me as a slash fan. John and Rodney's friendship is an important element of the story, and I could easily imagine that they'd be together if they had thirty seconds to spare from trying to save Atlantis. I Feel the Earth Move (http://janusglance.livejournal.com/306285.html?style=mine) by janusglance.

I can read this again and again: Draconian Measures (http://davidhewlett.tarlanx.com/fiction/viewstory.php?sid=169) which is set in the Dot.com AU

Very late to the party!

I know this post was ages ago but I was working my way through the recs and noticed the lack of Sailor's Delight (http://jinjurly.com/redsky.htm) by [livejournal.com profile] general_jinjur which is truly sad!

It's an SGA/Buffy/Night of the Comet crossover. No, really! (Night of the Comet knowledge not necessary!) An apocalypse fic with Dawn waking up to find no one else around until she bumps into Jeannie Miller and her entourage! There is also major character death but it is still a feel good fic despite all that and, at 23,000 words, is well worth the effort!
