Are there any fics where the scientists do something nice for the military contingent or where they acknowledge the fact that the soldiers are putting their lives on the line to protect them?

Thanks.

Sorry I don't have a rec, but I just wanted to second this request like none other! This is an interesting idea! Usually it is the other way around!

*sorry to butt in!*

Hmmm, I must've read something like this (even if not exactly it), but specific stories aren't coming back to me. There's one that has Rodney at least appreciating some of the soldiers that I'll ask about (http://community.livejournal.com/sgastoryfinders/3209461.html) at [livejournal.com profile] sgastoryfinders, and, um, I'm convinced that in some of her stories somewhere -- though again, no idea which one(s) -- [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine has moments of scientists-appreciating-military?

the one I was thinking of where Rodney appreciates the soldiers he gets from Sheppard (found thanks to [livejournal.com profile] susan_voight) was The Secret Life of Scientists (http://yearningvoid.net/stories/julad/000082.html) by julad. ~9150 words, Rodney/Radek

Oh it's awesome! And if you like it, julad's other Rodney/Radek story is even more hilarious (http://yearningvoid.net/stories/julad/000083.html). :)

Hee, did I finally get in here with this one before you? Usually you have the Indelible recs covered! :D

[livejournal.com profile] shaenie's Indelible (http://archiveofourown.org/works/120496?view_full_work=true) features an OC military officer, Havildar Cheema. Rodney appreciates her so much that he tries to hire her out from under Sheppard. :D

Hee, you have discovered my new-temporary pastime of "let's see for how many genrefinders searches I can legitimately rec the everything-including-the-kitchen-sink-fic, aka Indelible" -- and I can't believe I forgot about that part of it! (Cheema was cool too.) Now that you've mentioned it it's of course coming back, but oops on not realizing at the time what a fine reccing opp for it this would've been. ;) Thank you for taking over the slack! :)

Have you read Kiera Marcos' "What Might Have Been" http://keiramarcos.com/fan-fiction-index/stargate-atlantis-fan-fiction/what-might-have-been-series-atlantis-au/ ?

Rodney regularly rips someone a new one when they even suggest one of the military assets is expendable.

I am just reading Indelible now. I've been putting it off for a while, but now I'm pretty hooked, and I feel like a dolt for not reading it sooner. It's great!

Hee, another convert! I too waited longer than, in retrospect, I ought to have to read it -- I love 20,000-50,000 word fics, but ones over 100,000 words tend to hang out on the to-be-read list for rather longer. But I'm glad I did eventually read it within a handful of months of starting my SGA binge -- because not only does it have, well, not quite the kitchen sink, but so many elements that get asked for occasionally at this comm*, but it's a really good read, so it's always nice to be able to rec it! :)

* that is:
mathy!John? check.
protective!John? check.
angry!John? check.
protective!Rodney? check.
angry!Rodney? check.

telepathic bonds? check.
watch-out-for-that-alien-beverage? check.
discovering Really Cool additional Ancient toys? check.

epic-length McShep? check.
And most of that incomplete list is besides the elements it's been searched for (http://skaredykat.livejournal.com/3552.html#cutid3) over at [livejournal.com profile] sgastoryfinders! :)

None of these seem to quite fit; it makes me want to third the request!

Another sorta-kinda-ish one that I just read because it was recced for a different search: Botany Strike Back (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/663897.html) by [livejournal.com profile] slybrarian. Parrish sounds appreciative about Major Lorne's ability to stay out of trouble and tips for dealing with adversaries. (Also Drs. Parrish and Brown kick ass.) gen, short, cute.
