Power, influence or friends in high places

I'm looking for any stories where Rodney has connections (either on earth or elsewhere). I'm particularly interested in anything where he is not interested in taking advantage of the power he has and doesn't use or mention it until there is no other choice. I'll take any pairing or length, although McKay/Sheppard is preferred and the longer the better.

Speranza's Ordinary Life (http://trickster.org/speranza/cesper/ordinarylife.html) is somewhat like what you're describing. It's not that he doesn't mention his connections until he's forced to, but rather he doesn't mention them (and John is then surprised) because he takes them completely for granted.
