[identity profile] trafeane.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sgarecfinders
Hi! My first time posting here, so please forgive me if I make any mistakes.

I'm having a crappy day and could use cheering up, so I'm hoping you could send me links to your most favourite, well-written fics about Rodney. I don't really care what the genre is, but I prefer slash and am not too keen on rape or non-con fics.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I've received so many responses from everyone, and I want to thank you all. You guys are the best!

There ya go

I really adore Grey's Rodney, and she has a deft hand with humor even in tense plots; try her Wit's End (http://www.lupous.net/sga/wits.htm) (19k), See No Evil (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=28) (89k, AU), Nepenthe's Kiss (http://www.lupous.net/sga/nepenthe.htm) (older, silly), and Without a Paddle (http://greyias.livejournal.com/87144.html) (10k). All are gen.

I am very fond of [livejournal.com profile] astolat's Rodney in Oblivious (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/stargate/Oblivious.html). (~8200 words. John and Rodney get together kinda by accident.)

Forget Me Not (http://maisierita.livejournal.com/14509.html) by [livejournal.com profile] maisierita features a Rodney (and John) who are very much themselves despite complete amnesia. ~47,000 words, McShep.

Unidentified (http://fiercelydreamed.talkoncorners.net/main/archives/stargate-atlantis/unidentified) by [livejournal.com profile] fiercelydreamed is an Earth-based no-stargate AU that also features a (great) Rodney with complete amnesia. ~30,000 words, plus extras (all linked to here (http://skaredykat.livejournal.com/1083.html#cutid3)), eventual McShep.

Rebuilding Babel (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/610119.html), also by [livejournal.com profile] fiercelydreamed features Rodney unable to communicate. John and Ancient tech to the rescue... ~21,000 words, McShep.

Rewind, Reboot, Restore (http://www.goldenmaze.com/rewind.htm) by [livejournal.com profile] rheanna27 features the difficult contrast between Rodney then-and-now after a mishap with Ancient tech. ~24,000 words, McShep.

[livejournal.com profile] michelel72 gives excellent Rodney in Remorse (http://archiveofourown.org/works/31984) (SG1 crossover, startling/great twist, gen, ~18,500 words)

I, Rodney (http://alex51324.livejournal.com/154042.html) by [livejournal.com profile] alex51324 features a great robot!Rodney. Gen, ~39,000 words.

[livejournal.com profile] busaikko's Rodneys, I cannot choose between them... Though A Hundred Happy Things (http://busaikko.livejournal.com/94799.html) (Earth-based AU, McShep with MtF Sheppard, angry!Rodney, and therapist!Ronon, 30,000 words) and a hub for the wheel'd universe (http://community.livejournal.com/mcsmooch/114370.html) (~1650 words. Content advisory: very sad, though mitigated by various (http://busaikko.slashcity.org/?page_id=225) sequels (http://telesilla.livejournal.com/704200.html)) are always good re-reads.

Very recently, I also liked the trying-to-be-somewhat-ethical-in-the-face-of-immense-temptation(-plus-the-hair!)-Rodney in [livejournal.com profile] yin_again's Operant Conditioning (http://community.livejournal.com/yinfic/20081.html) (AMTDI, McShep, ~23,000 words)

my favourite Rodney/Ronon fics "Three Hundred and Sixty Four" (http://smiley.zonezine.net/html/96860.html) Ronon marries Rodney to get his green card (basically) and what happens their first year of wedded life.

"Thirteen O'Clock" (http://archiveofourown.org/works/24125) Rodney doesn't realize that he and Ronon are dating.

"Aliens make them get married" (http://archiveofourown.org/works/28920) for some reason, I've always thought of this as being a sequel to Thirteen O'Clock, but it's not actually listed as a sequel by the author, so oops on my part. though I think I'll always think of it as the sequel to the other fic.

3 more, all McShep

Absolutely cheering-upping and hilarious: of course Rodney is the awesomest unicorn ever (and John a very laid-back rainbow) in [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings' But Where Would They Live (http://thingswithwings.livejournal.com/18384.html) (~2700 words) and The Dreams That You Dare to Dream (Or, But What Would the Children Look Like?) (http://thingswithwings.livejournal.com/18862.html) (~1600 words)

Amazing Rodney, but may require tissues: freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose (http://www.kekkai.org/synecdochic/sga/freedoms_just_another_word.html) by Image (http://synecdochic.dreamwidth.org/profile)synecdochic (http://synecdochic.dreamwidth.org/). ~19,300 words, has an official sequel (http://www.kekkai.org/synecdochic/sga/and_the_bands_playing.html) and an unofficial prequel (http://www.kekkai.org/synecdochic/sga/stonemasons_buildings.html) (content advisory: Rodney survived John)

Back to hilarious and cheering-upping: Rodney (and John) as seen through the eyes of their early-teenage daughter on Atlantis: The Tragic, Doomed, and Epic Life and Loves of Elizabeth Jean McKay, Plus Other Interesting Stuff (http://archiveofourown.org/works/55446) by deastar (~13,600 words)

You're welcome! I often like longer fics too, though some of my favorites are quite short.

E.g., for my absolute top favorite McShep fics, I don't think I'll ever be able to make up my mind between "But Where Would They Live" (and sequel, very short, unicorn!Rodney) and "Freedom's Just Another Word" (and affilates, longer and much more serious/widower!Rodney), both linked lower down. :)

Somewhere, on Hth's LJ or defunct website, it definitely said that Thirteen O'Clock can be read as a prequel to Aliens Make Them Get Married/In the Hands of Yes (http://archiveofourown.org/works/28920) (or I wouldn't have them categorized as such in my file 'o Hth stories). So you are not alone! And second the recs, Hth gives excellent Rodney/Ronon (and great Ronon overall).

Old Soldiers Die Hard by friendshipper - The old guy in Room 30B was about the most disagreeable human being that the nurses had ever met. But he did get visitors -- including a retired Air Force Colonel. (McKay/Sheppard)
Intervals of Thirds by Commodore Norrington - One day, a boy named Rodney showed up at my door. What could I do with him? I was just a piano teacher. (gen)
Ten Times Doctor Rodney McKay Stopped at the Starbucks on the Way to Work by Vega - Rodney McKay is seriously, the worst customer ever. (McKay/OFC, humor)

Stuck by Kolyaaaa (http://kolyaaa.bravehost.com/stuck/stuck01.html) is one of my favorites, in which Rodney gets toddler-fied and it's all fun and games until it isn't.

Michelle72's allergy (http://michelel72.livejournal.com/70011.html) takes Rodney's health problems to hilarious outrageous levels.

Logical solutions to illogical problems by sardonicsmiley (http://smiley.zonezine.net/html/42478.html). No one loves Rodney like Atlantis.

I'm trying not to double up on any recs, I think I'm good.

Small Primes and Square Roots: I adore Rodney as a single parent in this. McShep. http://liviapenn.livejournal.com/367325.html

String Theory: Rodney's an agorophobic conductor and John's got some problems of his own. I love Rodney here but he's not the only reason to read this, the fic is deep and beautiful and makes you feel the music. McShep. http://toft-froggy.livejournal.com/190025.html

The Atlantis Local Stitch'n'Bitch Chapter: This is my favorite Rodney; funny, paranoid, and more than a little oblivious. One of my go-to cheer up fics. McShep. http://www.glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/435.php

My Father Before Me: This is a tear-jerker but it leaves you feeling satisfied, I think. Another one where I love Rodney as a parent, but because he keeps failing, despite trying so hard. He raises John's kid after John dies. McShep. http://telleer.livejournal.com/326670.html
