Marines with Science Skills?

I was thinking today that we often see fics where the scientists on Atlantis go back home and have all kinds of soldiery skills. What we don't often see are the marines/soldiers picking up scientist skills.

So I was hoping that somewhere out there exists fic where the Marines come back to Earth (rotations, post-Atlantis, whatever) and they're back in normal Marine squads but they have these awesome science skills they kind of take for granted (electronics, math, physics, geology, medicine, I'm really not fused). Other's reaction to this would be awesome. 

If this doesn't exist in its entirety i'd be happy to take anything about Marines with new sciency skills, Atlantis based or whatever.

Any length, pairing, genre welcome.

Why would a Marine learning new skills be surprising back on earth? USMC has tons of TECH and officers that have all kinds of skills. Just because every Marine is a rifleman doesn't mean they are all in combat positions. Okinawa, Camp Kinser, Electronic Maintenance Company (ELMACO) is a 3rd and 4th echelon repair for example and the SAT scores equivalent is 1100 minimum.

I think you are looking for combat Marines (03 and 11 MOS aka infantry and artillery). They are the stereotypical "jarhead".

Ties That Bind by Keira Marcos has Lt. Chase Harris learning about sciency stuff from Rodney in chapter six. This particular scene happens on Atlantis though.

I meant the kind of ridiculous level of science skill you see on SGA, or unexpected, in someone who has never done further training.

Yeah I do realise there are a lot of heavily educated people in the Marines, but I was looking for fic where people who they wouldn't expect have the skills, like younger enlisted who haven't had extra training. Or people having the kind of ridiculous level of science skills that you see in SGA.

That's such a bummer, because we keep seeing the crazy things the scientists get up to. The marines need some love.

Have you read all of miss_porcupine's stories? They're Marine-intensive, and I think there are some that would satisfy this criterion. Plus, they're mostly really funny, and even the ones that aren't funny (Qui Habitas is a post-apocalyptic WiP where the Ori have basically won, and there's a sort of a last-ditch Resistance barely hanging on in the Pegasus Galaxy, for instance) are terrific.
