I totally agree with you that *that* scenario would make for an awesome story, but alas I don't know any. Hopefully someone else does. :-)

I know there's at least one - it's from an Ancient's POV, and Atlantis begins reacting better to O'Neill than to any of the Ancients.

Unfortunately, I don't remember who wrote it or what the title is.
