Sheppard as an Atlantis Necessity

I had so much luck with my last request, I thought I'd try another.  ^^;

I'm looking for two types of fic that are -- essentially -- flip sides of one another (so it's possible the same fic will fit both).

1. John loses his command (or, alternatively, never gets his promotion) and is removed from Atlantis.  Ideally, the story will detail how it turns out that this is a Very Very Bad Idea.  He doesn't necessarily have to go back to Earth while he's 'away' from the city -- he could go rogue in Pegasus -- but Atlantis has to do without him.
2. Stories that explore how the Atlantis personnel rely on John.  I'm thinking something where they have to fight for him (hence my flip side comment).  Something that explores how Atlantis -- both the city and the people -- needs Sheppard.
