Ancient!John

Hello!

I'm looking for stories in which John is an Ancient  or a descended one. I prefer slash, but gen goes too. No het, please (:. (Except is really, really good.)

It could be that John was an ancient all along, or he discovers it because of an accident/ancient!device/dreams/memories/etc.

Or maybe he's reincarnated, descended with amnesia, or hiding intentionally as human etc.

I know that this has, probably, been asked before but maybe something new has been written.

I noticed ratcreature had listed Titan5's "The Mind of a Child" (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2525447/1/The_Mind_of_a_Child), which now has a completed sequel, "The Mind of Atlantis" (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2649207/1/The_Mind_of_Atlantis), which hasn't made it, as yet, onto her list.

Another one not on ratcreature's list is "A Final Awakening" (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/303002.html) by Smitty (smittywing) - maybe because it doesn't outright state that John is Ancient, but the story does an excellent job of implying such.

yeah, personally I interpreted A Final Awakening as Sheppard's mother being Ancient not him. I guess I could group it with the other "borderline" cases, where Sheppard isn't explicitly Ancient, but not plain human either.

I'm glad you find the list useful. In the story you mention, do you remember whether he does anything special with his ATA gene purity? A mere mention when it is only a minor point seems misleading if it isn't a plot point somehow. A ton of stories say something like "John's ATA gene is better" but nothing much comes of it. I think I read the story ages ago when I included it in my Atlantis independent/cut-off list, but I don't remember that pinging my John as Ancient kink at all.

*SPOILER WARNING: Highlight for details of spoiler-age*

Admittedly, I get a bit confused when getting down to the nitty-gritty on some of it -- mostly because I get caught in the whole how much Ancient is an Ancient issue... are they just Ancient because they have the ATA gene? Or is there more that makes them Ancient besides (disregarding the whole language issue because we've all seen how much language has evolved over the centuries)?

So, let's see here... the closest that the story comes to the whole Ancient issue with regards to John is the last 3-4 chapters; although there's hints in earlier chapters, which are further exposited under the 'spoiler cover.'

The later chapters: when they're flying Atlantis away from Lantea due to the SGC's newest incumbent declaring them traitors/criminals for seceding & not sending their ZPM to Earth. At that point, John was in the Chair, flying the city, and there's a connection to the point that they couldn't rouse John from his immersion into Atlantis' systems for a long time, was speaking in Ancient even though he can't speak it & most likely speaking about whatever systems status as they were flying. It was hinted at before the flying when they discovered the space station that shot down the Daedalus, because it would only 'connect' with John as far as starting life support systems on the station itself, and the discovery of further ZPMs there just before they left was because the station was flagging his attention for something.... I think the sequel might get further into it, but I don't remember how much further -- I'll be getting around to reading it in another chapter. LOL!
