[identity profile] moria-mine.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sgarecfinders
Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a little wild frontier today.

Is there anything out there where they go through the gate, are cut off from Earth and actually build a new...I'm wanting to say "country" for lack of a better word but I guess "civilization" is closer to what I'm feeling here. I'm looking for something long (long, long LONG) and plotty with excellent development where over the course of the story, they stop considering themselves "from Earth, on deployment" and start considering themselves "Atlanteans, at home".

You're all wonderful people and my undying gratitude goes out to whomever can find this for me.

Moria~

Do you mean http://synecdochic.livejournal.com/126570.html "City On The Edge Of Forever, the Pilot"?

As the local mod, I'm giving you a slap on the wrist for mixing in a story search with you genre search, so you have one shot to edit out that part from your post, whether the story you were looking for is the one previously mentioned.

Sorry, you can always add the actual story to your post later, but all the bits about the story search should be deleted, please. Not striked out, not minimized, plain and simple deleted. You can edit the rest as you best see fit so it makes sense, of course, but please, in the future, keep in mind that this is NOT a story search comm, and act accordingly. Thanks.

A couple of stories sprang to mind when I read your search. I don't know if they fit what you want, and they're all stories that have been widely read and acclaimed, so you may have them already.

Ripples in the Space Between (http://www.mardahin.net/sga/Ripples/ripples.html) by Miriel is nice and long, stretching into the future with the children of the Lanteans. It's the one where Earth cuts Atlantis off due to budgetary issues and later regains contact. There's mpreg, but it's pretty much all off-screen, so it shouldn't squick anyone.

The Body Holographic (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=7849) by Leah and Springwoof. This is the one where John, like, bonds with Atlantis upon his death and becomes the Defender of the city. Really interesting look at the society the Lanteans built. It expands on a much shorter story called Left to Fend (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=2350).

Crimes Against Humanity (http://seperis.illuminatedtext.com/sga/crimes.html) by [livejournal.com profile] seperis is so good and so very, very wrong. It's the one where all of our beloved characters are sociopaths and killers, sentenced to the penal colony on Atlantis. The way they can be so evil and still so them is awesome.

you might also want to try [livejournal.com profile] mirabile_dictu's The History of Atlantis Part II (according to her own count, it's over 80,000 words). There are a lot of different parts, and there are a ton of different pairings, and all can be seen at her index for it here (http://mirabile-dictu.slashcity.net/History_index.html).

Actually, she's written at least one other that's like that... nothing else but the mysterious pull of the moon (http://mirabile-dictu.livejournal.com/63290.html#cutid1) and the tardiest explorer (http://mirabile-dictu.livejournal.com/58607.html#cutid1) both might fit the bill.

depending on how much you know about SG-1, you also might like [livejournal.com profile] mrshamill's Slouching Towards Bethlehem (http://hawksong.com/~momskitchen/SGA_Fic/bethlehem.htm) and its sequel, And There Was War in Heaven (http://hawksong.com/~momskitchen/SGA_Fic/heaven.htm)

[livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine also has one called Qui Habitat (http://www.offpanel.net/dmz/sga/quihabitatcover.html) that's just a start (uh, as much as anything she writes is "just" anything, because it's LONG) but might fulfill the same desire.

Um. That's a lot. Hope you enjoy them!

I know you posted this request a while ago, but [livejournal.com profile] cesperanzahas a new story called Written by the Victors (http://www.trickster.org/speranza/cesper/Victors.html) that is exactly what you were looking for, and OMG you need to go read it right now!

Seriously, I was reading the fic and I flashed back on this search and I HAD to come rec it. No choice.

ok, i know this is an old post, and i don't know if you'll even see this, but since no one mentioned the Retrograde series by Martha Wilson, to my complete shock, i have to, for it is awesome. it is an SG-1/SGA crossover, but it kicks serious ass.

Gee, the stories recced sound really interesting. I am tempted to click on the links. But no one mentioned if they are slash or not. That is a problem for those of
us who do not read slash. Would anyone be kind enough to enlighten
those of us who wish to know? Especially the Written by the Victors one. Thanks so much.
