Homeless Rodney / Childhood Rodney

Hi there!

I was wondering if anyone could direct me to some fic about Rodney being homeless and out of a job, etc.

I'd also love some backstory - horrible childhood stuff.

I'm not really bothered whether it's canon-friendly or not, but if the SGA guys are involved, then I'd prefer McShep or gen with strong McShep friendship.

I've read all of the fic on Korillian's 'Misserable' childhood list and everything ever written by sardonicsmiley! I've also explored all the links on this site, so I've probably exhausted everything, but I throw myself on your mercy...!

Huh... yeah.... sigh! I second that rec - I check regularly just in case they've put up a new story! Those are both creepy stories and I wasn't sure how (or if) they fitted together, but if anyone is looking for the same kind of stuff that I am and they haven't read those, then they should!!

I think they had a plot bunny that split and became twins. Hence the two very different twin fics with the same pair of twins. One was what if they'd gotten the best support and counseling and the other was what if they didn't? At least that's the way i took it. Either way I was just plain giddy over the fact they'd added new fics. ^_^

I'm answering my own question here, but I have found a story that delves a little into Rodney's horrible childhood - he's caught in a beam and made into a kid (yeah... that old one!) and he immediately thinks that he's 12 and his Dad has sold him to the CIA. It's sweet and worth reading!

Wow. That fic has some impressive racism in it.

Rodney's father was apparently addicted to an illegal drug called cocaine. It can make people violent," John stopped for moment as he watched Rodney chasing one of the children in a game of football. "Anyway, only criminals deal in it, and in the US a lot of those criminals have dreads or have brown skin. Since those groups of people are usually more poor than people with light skin. It goes back to ... I think I've gotten off subject. Rodney says you look like the guy who sold those drugs to his dad, so he thought you were a criminal, someone who might hurt him

The druggie stereotype associated with brown people who have dreadlocks is pot, not cocaine. atuinsails needs to get her offensive racial stereotypes straight.

Also, powdered cocaine is predominately sold to white people by other white people. There has been a lot of discussion/debate about how the penalties for dealing crack cocaine are harsher than for powered cocaine, which many people believe reflects racism and classism in drug sentencing (link (http://www.drugpolicy.org/communities/race/)). Rodney's dad's dealer would have been a white guy, not a someone who looks like a dreadlocked multiracial Pacific Islander.

Ahh the burden of Racism in Fic. (And the joys of what it means for Reality)
I always sporfle at this type of stuff unless I'm inundated with it for too long in a fic. It's like Ronon's feathers in S5. A few scenes is hilarious, the entire season was a bit much.
Thanks for the heads up though, I'll make sure to read it when I'm in a cheerful sarcastic mood, so I don't wind up mentally stabbing the bad lines.

But boy, is that example a doozy out of context. O_o;;
I swear someday I'm going to Genre Search Bad!Fic with silly racist and sexist lines and see if some of my favorite "BWUH?! moment" fics get recced to me.
