Okay, there are a lot of fics out there where Rodney is completely in awe of the fact that he was lucky enough to land John. Are there any where John feels that way about Rodney?
I only remember this story/series vaguely, but it might prompt someone's memory. There's a series in which Rodney is this majorly successful science/software near-celebrity and John is the military's poster child for just how post-DADT open-minded they are. It starts out with a meeting in which one of the SGC? IOA? people has been slapped down by Rodney and demands to know if John isn't there to reign him in. That rep soon ends up with a variety of life-frustrating and possibly career-ending hacks/pranks perpetrated on him/her by both Rodney's and, I think, Sam's mad haxxor skillz. Within like half an hour of the meeting. Rodney is loaded and, on noticing John is uncomfortable as a plane passenger, buys him a plane, I think -- just kind of offhandedly. And there's a break-in and they end up buying a new house. Funny that I remember this much but not enough to find the link, really, but I'm pretty sure that John feels really lucky to have landed Rodney in that series.
Aha, yes, that's it exactly -- I'm thinking of the third and possibly fourth installments, which I had read in isolation. I haven't read the entire series yet -- it's in my to-be-read folder -- so I hadn't made the connection. Thanks!
Unfortunately, I've already read the entire series (multiple times). In fact, it's the only story I could think of - or in this case set of stories - where John feels that way. I guess I should have posted it up with my request. Oops.
uh, in a roundabout way Directional Theory (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/directionaltheory.php) by Pru kind of fits but...um. It's not a happy ending. It's a really good story though, if a bit devastating.
