Hi everyone,

I recently read a fic that featured Sheppard doing math and so now, of course, I want more math fics! Rodney doing math.... Shep doing math.... heck, Ronon doing math if there are any of those out there. Basically any fics in which math is an integral part of the plot or is at least a necessary feature.

Gen, het, slash, AU, aliens-made-them-do-it-and-the-aliens-have-calculators. Whatever. Just let me know which is which. Even if I don't read, I'm sure others will appreciate the recs.

Thanks!!

I have one where John shows off his math skills: Counting On You

John's math skills are vital in The Breaking of John Sheppard by Laura_trekkie

When he's lost so much, John still has his math in Hollows For the Unmended by [livejournal.com profile] busaikko

If you don't mind some self pimping, then my Geometry of Gold (http://celestialdome.com/SGAFiction/Stories/GeometryGold.html) and HOw many miles to Bethlehem? (http://celestialdome.com/SGAFiction/Stories/Bethlehem.html) both have John being mathy and porny.

It is long and gen.

It's dark and sad just to warn you, but in a brilliantly written Irresistible AU, Irreplaceable by kashkow, John shows his true inner math genius and solves one of the Millenium problems, if I recall correctly, specifically the Navier-Stokes equations. http://stargate-atlantis.org/fanfics/viewuser.php?uid=1140

You should check out Teacher's Pet and especially "Teacher's Pet: Lorne," which is miss_porcupine picking up a chapter of a very unusual fic by the other author, and telling it from Lorne's POV as events come to a head. This fic is unfinished and is one which I fear is heading into dreaded (for me) McShep territory but miss_porcupine's chapter is fabulous. The rest of it is well-done also. A priestess turns John back into a child and he is re-raised most unusually by the Atlantis staff. Seeing John as a child makes clear how much of his personality was shaped by his childhood and adult experiences. Everyone is horrified to realize just how brilliant he is and how much of an act he has been putting on. He does math, science, everything. Since John is a child for all of the story, I hope and pray this doesn't turn into McShep since that would make Rodney's interactions with the child Shep incredibly icky in retrospect. And he's dead in it but he also solved one of the Millenium problems in Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose (http://www.kekkai.org/synecdochic/sga/freedoms_just_another_word.html). You've probably already read it. It's the best story in the fandom in my opinion.
