I'm looking for fics where John never joined the army, and is this rich playboy who parties through life and woos women to hide his gayness from his family. Though of course secretly he's yearning for something completely different, and then McKay shows up and turns John's facade of a life upside down.


Also, John's father needen't necesarily be involved, maybe John's made his money on his own and is a bastard of a business man or something. Just as long as the setting is John pretending to be something he isn't and hiding behind the rich lifestyle.


I'm not generally too keen on teenage fics, so I'd prefer if they were at least in their mid twenties, though I'm not too picky.

Sorry, I don't have any fics like this, but I just want to second the request because that sounds hot!!!

Having said that, have you tried checking out the Harlequin challenges? That's a very mills and boony type plot, so there could be one or two fics like that over there.

The idea was actually inspired by a photo manip, accompanied by a plot bunny by the author. Apparently I failed to favourite the entry though, as I can't find it anywhere :(

Speaking solely as a mod, I have to caution you that your post is more of a plotbunny-up-for-grabs one than a genuine genre request. Most notably, you have way too many details you're requesting the fics you'd like to read to have; not only has John got to be a rich playboy, he also needs to be gay and in the closet, get it on with Rodney, plus be younger than current canon.

Basically, it looks like you're looking for a specific fic, even if it hasn't be written yet, and this comm is not about that. However, you could edit your post and make it request a wider range of stories you'd like to read, and also make this comm's mods happy for obeying comm rules.

I might have worded my request badly, for example, I didn't necessarily want them to be younger than canon age, but I've noticed a trend in these kind of fics (spoiled, rich John) where they usually are younger, and then I tried to limit the number of teen fics by adding the age estimation.

And I wasn't looking for a specific fic, but yeah, I was looking for specific types of fic, but isn't that what this community is for? Also I had no idea that there was a restriction on how much detail you can have in your request. I understand of course that too many details make it impossible for people to rec the fics, but to be honest, most of the things I mentioned are pretty important for the kind of setting I'm interested in. Take away the closet thing, and the angst factor drops quickly. Take away the whole gay part and uh. Well, I'm not that interested anymore :D And there are several John In The Closet fics out there, but I wanted something different, hence the "rich" part.

And for what it's worth, considering I got linked to a whole new community and three different fics, I don't think I was being too specific.

I've actually read this one, but thanks. Despite that it opens with the boys as teeanagers, and the ending being a little too smooth, it's still a fun fic. Or you know, as fun as fics with rape in them can be. Er.

Um, OK, but you do realize that most of the fics and the one comm you've been recced only touch *some* of the specifics of your request, and not all? Meaning that you can defend your wording of your post all you want, you're still getting rich!John and playboy!John McShep AUs, with some not definitely not all of the stuff involved. Which is why I was suggesting you word your post differently so more folks feel it's OK to rec stuff like that - for example, while your request made me personally think of "The Amazing Quest of John Sheppard", I wouldn't have recced it, because it doesn't fit all your criteria. Meaning that, like you said above, I was under the very strong impression that the fic would not be something that insterests you. Because, yeah, you did give way too many resctrictions in there.

I'd say you're lucky folks around here go with the spirit of a request more than the wording sometimes; like I said, this isn't a fic prompt or search comm, and as a mod, if a request doesn't really look like a genre request, I get to step in and have my say. Still, you got away with it thanks to the marvelous folks around here, so I'll quit bugging you on this topic. But please remember for next time that making broader genre requests? Will still insure you get virtually the same recs, as there's only so many fics in this fandom.
