Ford with the ATA gene

I hadn't really twigged on this before, but in The Siege - Part III, Ford made his escape in a puddlejumper, which means either he was a natural carrier or that at some point, he received the gene therapy, right? Right.

Can anyone point me to stories that show Ford using his ATA gene? I'll take any genre.

Apparently, they say in the commentary to that episode that Ford activated an automatic sequence that doesn't take the gene to initialise. That's why he was in the co-pilot's seat; at least, that's what I've been told. :)

I'd love to see stories in which he did get the gene therapy, though.

To be honest? The commentary sounds a bit like scrambling to justify the scene, rather than a deliberate choice at the time they filmed it (not that I blame them--I'm guessing it was seen as a honking big plot hole after it originally aired).

However, I'm one of those fans who accepts what's on screen as canon and thinks that what's said in the commentary is interesting but *not* canon. In my head, Ford received the gene therapy at some point, which keeps everything relatively neat and tidy, as far as I'm concerned. And if there aren't stories about it -- [shifty eyes] -- maybe there will be.

In Hot Zone, after it's realized that the virus didn't kill Rodney because he has the ATA gene, Ford asks Carson about getting it. It's too late to take effect before the virus would kill him, but I always figured Ford went back after that episode and got it then. I'd only need to be scared like that once before I'd decide to be as close to the Ancients as possible.

But alas, I have no stories for you...

Actually, I believe it's in that ep or the next, Sheppard mentions that Ford would have ditched the jumper and gone through another gate. Between that and the fact that Ford was in the co-pilot's seat, I've always assumed it was a automatic routine that took the jumpers through the gate, and I didn't even know about the commentary.

(Though I suppose he might have ditched the jumper for... what? Money? Because it was too easily tied to Atlantis? I dunno. I guess there are plenty of reasons.)
