John not in the SGC, then find out.

I'd really like some fics where John is not in the SGC in the beginning, and enters/finds out in a way other than canon.

He can either still be in the military or not, but I want there to still be an active Stargate program that he later has a part in.

I'm looking for McShep mostly.
