Genocide, Pegasus Peoples in Trouble

I'm wondering if there are fics out there where the main characters become involved or entrenched in a local dispute, or become directly involved in helping a people after a Culling or other disaster.  I'm interested in fics where the people themselves have meaning to the expedition members, rather than just an arbitrary let's help the folks in trouble sentiment.

A fic where the loss actually affects the main characters, and therefore the reader?

Secondarily, I'm just hungering for some Pegasus-culture!fic.  Anything out there where the culture/customs of a particular group of Pegasus natives is important to the plot?

As always, I prefer McShep, but am open to anything that comes highly recommended.  Thanks for the Xmas reading, and hope everyone's having a good holiday season so far!  :)
