Rodney gets more respect!

I've been rewatching the series and I'm seriously annoyed on Rodney's behalf at how much crap he gets from people, and how little thanks he gets. I find Elisabeth particularly condescending,  I'd like to see stories where everyone truly realises just how vital Rodney is, and how brave he is for a civilian.
Also if there are any McShep stories where Elisabeth or Sam fancy John but lose out to Rodney, that'd be great too.

Stories that have capable! and respected!Rodney are my favest *ever* ;-D but sadly, I've learnt over time to settle for stories written by authors who gives Rodney his dues, as it were, so here's a few of my faves to start you off:

Five Impossible Things Rodney McKay Did Before Breakfast (http://laceymcbain.livejournal.com/202087.html) by laceymcbain, McShep, PG-13

Rodney presses a small key into Sheppard’s palm. “Radek’s going to need this key for access.”

Sheppard looks at the key, wet and shiny against his skin, and shakes his head. “Why doesn’t Zelenka have—”

“Because I’m a petty, paranoid man!” Rodney shouts with exasperation

Oh Rodney, how I adore you! (And Lacey by proxy, for writing you so well. *g*)


Then there's Transcendetal (http://www.livejournal.com/users/astolat/81221.html) by astolat, McShep, NC-17, in which Rodney is in charge (set season 1-ish) while Elizabeth is recovering in a stasis pod. In-charge!Rodney, head-over-heels!John - Shalott always gives the best kinks plots!

One of the authors I almost-recently *is sheepish* discovered who gives an excellent amount of Rodney!love in her stories is sardonicsmiley; you could definitely read most of her stories and be happy with what you find therein, but you should definitely not miss out on Three Times Rodney McKay had a Superpower; One Time He Was Just a Hero (http://sardonicsmiley.livejournal.com/27051.html), McShep, PG-13, Rodney keeps getting superpowers with variably good results, and John just wants Rodney *cough*tobehisRodney*cough* but it's not even the tip of the iceberg, just the 1st fic that I stumbled upon that kinda fits the bill.

Another author who gives great Rodney!love is thegrrrl2002; I'm faily sure I read all of her stories (which, wow, I'm still a bit dazed over) so I can't think of any specific titles, but if you peruse her stories either in her lj or on her website (linked in her profile, I'm fairly sure) you're sure to find stuff you like.

For Rodney centric stories I can think of a couple of stories that have Atlantis being more fond of Rodney than of anyone else; try The Seeker of The Lost (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/547351.html) by gemmi999, Atlantis, John, Rodney, gen, and Loving Rodney (http://www.visionsofprettyboys.com/Atlantis/LovingRodney.htm) by ladyra, Atlantis, McShep, PG-13.

Oh, and physical!Rodney is always a fave; ladycat777 gave an awesome example of just how NOT lab-soft Rodney really is in Just Rewards (http://ladycat777.livejournal.com/935565.html), McShep, explicit, Rodney saves the day, er, the clumsy scientist, with his manly physique. (This is where the fangirl drool bib comes into play. *g*)

Can't believe I almost forgot: another author whose Rodney is always a great Rodney, and not used or abused (unless it's to make us adore him more), is julad; her SGA stories are here (http://yearningvoid.net/stories/julad/cat_stargate.html), and all three of the long ones (two totally awesome beyond compare Rodney/Radek's and one McShep set on earth with AU/pre-canon!Jeannie) will help you get a good, cozy Rodney buzz going. Can't decide which one is better at it, "The Secret Life of Scientists" or "Thicker Than Water", because both give a good assertive!Rodney.

...And I think I managed to rec you a bunch of fics that barely fit your criteria. Oh well, at least I got to rec my faves again. There really should be a community with the subject line "Rodney McKay Doesn't Walk on Water -- But Only Because TPTB Won't Let Him Build His Own Shoes", because the Rodney!respect and Rodney!appreciation should be an institution. *nodnod* Or I could just be obsessive that way. ;-D

It's not Rodney's big brain that gets the kudos in "Personal Hero" by MrsHamill, but he's described as "a core of steel under a mountain of bittersweet marshmallow," and at the end of it, everyone is looking at him and thinking "Whoa."

Thank you riani1. Personal Hero is great, you've just gotta love strong Rodney, and I ADORE all of sardonicsmiley's fics!
I'd like to read fics though where people truly realise they've treated Rodney like crap, where they reflect over Rodney's heroics and take the decision to treat him better, maybe grovel and apologize a lot. Does anyone know any fics like that?
